STE were engaged to interrogate eight kiosk transformers at a renewable energy generation site due to abnormal results being obtained during the site acceptance testing.
Our team of experienced technicians mobilised to site and began the interrogation. The insulating oil was drained sufficiently to allow the removal of the lid and the primary windings. A full inspection was carried out and it was noted that there was minor damage to the primary connections which had most probably occurred during transportation.
The STE technicians repaired the damage, replace the transformer lid and refilled the unit with insulating oil. Once these works were completed, the transformer was tested electrically and placed into service.
Our ability to mobilise to remote locations throughout Australia enables us to provide services in areas where the technical skill base is unavailable. For this project, our team drove to the client’s site carrying all of the specialist equipment required to complete the works – a distance of 2,000km from our head office.
Communication with the client, who are located in Italy, was a challenge during this project due to time differences, but our dedicated team rose to this challenge and a strong relationship now exists between the two companies.
The restrictions imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the crossing of borders and social distancing were addressed by the team and STE’s HSE department prior to mobilisation, and the resultant policy was strictly adhered to throughout the project. As such, no reportable incidents were recorded.
