AC Board upgrade project

STE Solutions delivered the AC Board Upgrade project for South Australia’s Transmission Utility at their remote substations.
This project allowed STE to demonstrate its ability to self-perform the full range of project disciplines; from design and project management to construction management, equipment procurement and installation, outage planning, HV & LV switching, critical equipment switching, testing and commissioning.
The aim of the AC Board Replacement project was to replace selected, aged substation AC auxiliary assets across multiple sites, with new 230/400v AC wiring. This included automatic changeover boards, main switchboards, distribution boards, transformer isolation kiosks, HV switchyard GPO kiosk, generator kiosks and associated infrastructure.
STE was also tasked with the update and implementation of the clients’ Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) architecture to ensure the new equipment would interface successfully with the existing system. This allows the user to remotely monitor the substation’s critical systems, to ensure an optimal response to measured conditions.
As these sites covered a vast geographical spread throughout South Australia. As sites were delivered concurrently, logistics and outages required careful planning and implementation to avoid project delays and extended power interruptions.
As the project required interruptions to multiple HV substation power supplies, it was essential that intricate planning and coordination was undertaken to ensure minimum disruption. STE proved its capabilities by delivering a successful project under these challenging circumstances.
STE has a strong focus on quality and the demonstration of quality assurance. This was evident in the manner that STE effectively managed quality documents and drawings throughout the project lifecycle, which led to an expeditious close-out and hand-over process, much to the satisfaction of our client.
